FACTS DON'T EXISTCommentsI definitely understand that feeling, and I want to thank the author creating these works of arts. Knowing others share a similar burden can be inspiring. But as scary as it may seem at first, shouldn't we embrace this unique ability of ours? We own the only lifeforms on this planet, and perhaps even the entire universe, with this filter, that allows us to see how extraordinary the world is.
Well, I tried to end on a positive note.
I think that living in a world with no definite lines is desirable, really, at least for me. With no set boundaries, we can constantly evolve our understanding of the world. We can continue to grow, with no ceiling set on knowledge. There's no limit to run in to. That said, I would be wary of saying that we are, or "own" (?) the only lifeforms on this planet that filter the world this way. The nature of the brain, how connections are formed, and how they function, affects far more than our group of homo sapiens. This is true, but we are the only lifeforms who filter the world the way humans do, just as x lifeform is the the only lifeform to filter the world the way x lifeform does.
I'd love to see the world as a sparrow, or a spider, but alas, it's not possible. U_U; I'm happy with my human brain though. No, it's about how labels, categories, and facts are simply figments of the human brain, and only the human brain. It's how we process the world. And realizing that reality is not what we believe it to be can be scary. Very scary.
The project started out as a means of graphically representing Depersonalization disorder. Depression certainly comes into play. But zehRocketeer is also on point--reality is very much constructed based on how we perceive the world.
It can be terrifying. |
